MAGDA LINETTE UPSETS NO. 6 ONS JABEUR IN FIRST ROUND OF FRENCH OPEN

No. 56 Magda Linette stunned No. 6 seed Ons Jabeur, bouncing the Tunisian star in the first round of the French Open Sunday.
The Polish underdog outlasted Jabeur in the two-and-a-half-hour battle, notching a 3-6, 7-6(4), 7-5 three-set win. Linette was only 2-16 against Top 10 opponents heading into Sunday’s contest, falling to Jabeur in the third round of the French Open last year. The unseeded Pole played clean tennis to overcome the No. 6 seed, registering 35 unforced errors to Jabeur’s 47. Jabeur has been dominant on dirt up until Sunday’s upset, winning a tour-leading 17 matches on clay in 2022. “I am just happy I managed to fight for every single point,” said Linette following the match, acknowledging the challenge Jabeur presented on clay. Linette now advances to the second round, where she will face the winner of Martina Trevisan and Harriet Dart.

Who is Marta Kostyuk? Marta Kostyuk is a tennis player from Ukraine. Marta was born on June 28, 2002. in Chaiky near Kiev. Marta is the daughter of Oleh Kostyuk and his wife, Talina (nee Boyko). Oleh Kostyuk was the technical director of the Kiev Junior Tennis Tournament "Antey Cup", Marta`s mother was a professional tennis player representing Ukraine in the 1990s who reached a career high WTA ranking of No. 391. Marta started playing tennis in her young childhood at the Antey Tennis Club on the west side of Kiev. He started playing tennis at the age of five, and when he was 12 he won his first big tournament , the unofficial U-12 European Championships in Rome. In 2014, Damir played nine tournaments, winning all of them and losing only four sets in the process.  Currently, the sport in Bosnia and Herzegovina is in a very difficult situacion, so the successes of Damir Dzumhur significantly increased the interest of the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina for sports.  Junior career: Damir played the first junior tournament in Mostar in BiH exactly 9 years ago, where he lost the match in the first round of the main draw from the Austrian player Stiefelmayer.
