Damir Dzumhur is a first child to father Nerfid-Neno Dzumhur and mother Zaneta. His first coach was his father Nerfid. He started playing tennis at the age of five, and when he was 12 he won his first big tournament , the unofficial U-12 European Championships in Rome. In 2014, Damir played nine tournaments, winning all of them and losing only four sets in the process.
Currently, the sport in Bosnia and Herzegovina is in a very difficult situacion, so the successes of Damir Dzumhur significantly increased the interest of the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina for sports.
Junior career:
Damir played the first junior tournament in Mostar in BiH exactly 9 years ago, where he lost the match in the first round of the main draw from the Austrian player Stiefelmayer. On the same tournament, Damir came to the finals of the doubles competition. In August 2008, Damir won his first trophy in the junior career on the Revita Open 2008 in Skopje, FYROM. By the end of 2008, Damir played another final in Croatia at the G4 tournament.
At the beginning of 2009, Damir has excellent results. On the tournament in Bratislava (SVK), Damir arrives to the finals where he was defeated by Czech player Urbanek (3-6,3-6). During the spring of 2009, Damir switches to stronger tournaments (Grade 2, Grade 1) where he achieves solid results.
In May 2009, Damir managed to win the G3 tournament in Morocco both singles and doubles. During his tour in Morocco, Damir also made good results in the tournaments in Rabat and Mohammedia.
On the G2 tournament in Pancevo in neighboring Serbia, Damir won both singles and doubles. In the singles he won matches against very good players such as Zsiga (HUN), Micov (MKD).
At the G1 tournament Perin Memorial in Umag, Damir came to the finals after excellent wins against Delic (CRO), Androic (CRO), Kovalik (SVK) where he was defeated by Baluda (RUS) 4-6,6-2, 6-7 (3).
In the last junior year, Damir made excellent results. He managed to win more tournaments:

Senior career:
Already in 2008, Damir began playing professional tournaments. His first appearance was recorded at Challenger in Sarajevo, where he gets WC for qualification. He was defeated by Jasper Smit (NED) 6-3,1-6,3-6.
Damir won the first point for the ATP list at the futures tournament in Osijek (CRO) in September 2009. In the first round of the tournament, Damir beat Toni Androic (CRO) 6-1,6-2. In the second round, he was defeated by his countryman Aldin Setkic 5-7,4-6.
During 2010., Damir wons the first doubles futures in Dubrovnik (CRO) in pair with his countryman Ismar Gorcic.
On the ATP Tour, he debuted in Zagreb in 2011 but was defeated in the qualifications of tennis players from Slovenia, Blaz Kavcic 0-6,4-6.
During 2011, Damir wins his first futures on the home soil in Brcko. In the final, he beats his countryman and friend Aldin Setkic in three sets 6-3,5-7,7-5. At the end of August, Damir wins another futures in Osijek (CRO). In the final, Damir easily defeated Mislav Hizak from Croatia 6-1,6-4. In October and November, Damir wins two more futures in Dubrovnik (CRO) and Antalya (TUR).
2012:
At the start of the year, Damir wins futures in Antalya (TUR) defeating Nikolaus Moser (AUT) 6-4,7-6 in the finals. During the spring, Damir goes to futures in Italy where he wins new futures. The first appearance in the main draw of the Challenger Tournament takes place in Brazil, where he also holds the first Challenger win against Blaz Kavcic (SLO). In the second round of the same tournament, Damir was defeated by Marco Trungelliti (ARG).
During the spring, Damir wins two more futures tournaments in Kiseljak and Brcko on the home soil. The first major success on the challengers, Damir made on the tournament in Kosice (SVK), was defeated in the semi-finals by Simon Greul (GER) 2-6,4-6. In June, Damir debuts at the Grand-Slams tournament in Wimbledon where he is able to pass the first round of qualifications, and in the second round he loses from Van Der Merwe (RSA) 3-6,3-6. By the end of 2012, Damir is able to record some solid results both on challengers and on futures tournaments.
2013:
During the first part of 2013, Damir wins futures in Zagreb (CRO), Plovdiv (BUL) and then makes a great result in the Kosice Challenger. After four great matches against the great opponents (Souza (BRA), Albot (MDA)), Damir was defeated in the finals by Mikhail Kukushkin (KAZ) after a great fight (4-6,6-1,2-6). In July 2013, Damir played in the Poznan Challenger finals, where he was defeated by Haider-Maurer (AUT) 6-4,1-6,5-7. In the autumn, Damir wins futures in Dubrovnik (CRO) and ends the year at 183 on the ATP list.
2014:
Damir already makes the best result in his previous career at the start of the year. In the Australian Open, Damir passes qualifiers and records two great victories in the main draw against Jan Hajek (CZE), Ivan Dodig (CRO). In the third round, Damir met with one of the favorites at the Australian Open, Tomas Berdych (CZE), but despite a great resistance he was defeated in three sets. This result will give him a new dose of self-confidence and an additional incentive for the season ahead of him.
The first challenger, Damir wins in Mersin (TUR) and already in June, Damir wins another challenger in Arad (ROU). A series of great results, Damir continues with a great game in San Benedetto (ITA) where a great game comes up with another challenger title.
2015:
In Santo Domingo (DOM), Damir comes to a new challenger title. Good results on the clay, Damir crowned by passing in the third round of Roland Garros where he met with his tennis idol Roger Federer. Despite good resistance, Damir was defeated in three sets of 4-6,3-6,2-6.
In September, Damir wins the new challenger title in Alphen (NED) and then wins another challenger in Casablanca (MOR) next month. 2015, Damir finishes for the first time in the top 100 on the ATP list, at 82th position.
2016:
In 2016, Damir does not manage to win any challenger but he managed to score a couple of solid results. During the season on the clay, Damir binds several losses in a row. The biggest success in 2016, Damir says in Miami where he comes to the R16. In Miami he also came to a career victory over Rafael Nadal, but in the fourth round he was defeated convincingly by Milos Raonic (CAN) 0-6,3-6.
2017:
This year, Damir starts with three losses in a row at tournaments in Chennai, the Australian Open and the Sofia Tournament (BUL). During the early spring, Damir records solid results at tournaments in Memphis, Delray Beach, Dubai where he managed to beat Stan Wawrinka.
After Roland Garros, Damir starts with great results, wins the challenger to Blois (FRA) defeating Hemery (FRA) 6-1,6-3. On Wimbledon, Damir passes the first round and in the second round loses to Aljaz Bedene (GBR) in four sets 3-6,6-3,3-6,3-6.
In the last three months, Damir's results are perfect. He played semifinals in Los Cabos (MEX), was defeated by Sam Querrey (USA) in three sets. After the final challenger in Santo Domingo, Damir makes a great result in Winston-Salem, coming to the finals after 6 great victories where he was defeated by Bautista-Agut (ESP) 4-6,4-6.
The first ATP tournament, Damir wins in Russia in St. Petersburg, defeating Fabio Fognini (ITA) 3-6,6-4,6-2 in the finals. Damir played great during the whole tournament, without mistake and deservedly took the title.

Last week, Damir made the success of his career, coming to the title of the Kremlin Cup. In the first round of the tournament in Moscow, Damir met Thomas Fabiano (ITA) and managed to win three sets 6-3,0-6,6-2 after a great fight. And the next two matches, Damir played in three sets against Yuki Bhambri (IND) and Andreas Seppi (ITA). In the semifinals, Damir met with his countryman Mirza Basic and that was the biggest success of BiH tennis. In that match, the spectators could see a great game of both tennis players, but the last point wins Damir, who came to the final with 6-0,7-6.
In the final, Damir met with Ricardas Berankis (LAT). Dzumhur dominated from the start but slumped in the second set even though Berankis made just 31 percent of his first serves in that set. After a great three sets, Damir comes to the victory (6-2,1-6,6-4). Damir on the same tournament comes to the doubles match with Antonio Sancic (CRO) where they are defeated by Mirnyi / Oswald.
